The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) did not consider the demand of introducing freedom fighter quota in the first year admission for the fear that the quality of educational activities may be affected.

Ohidul Islam Tushar, the convener of the Central Command Council for Children and Generations of Freedom Fighters, submitted a written letter to the BUET authorities demanding a quota for 'freedom fighters'.

Earlier, BUET authorities discussed the matter with the Academic Council.  informing the decision of the meeting, BUET Registrar Prof. Md. Forkan Uddin sent a letter to Ohidul Islam.

The letter said, "In the light of your letter dated 25-04-2021 on the above subject, in the 471st meeting of the Academic Council of this University held on 12-10-2021; The meeting opined in favor of upholding the decision taken in the Academic Council meeting on 19-02-2005." The decision of the Academic Council meeting dated 19-02-2005 is quoted below:

‘The issue of reservation of minimum 5% quota for admission of children of freedom fighters mentioned in the proposal was discussed in detail. Discussions and reviews show that although other universities have admission quotas for staff wards, this university has never had a quota and still does not have one. The war of liberation took place about 34 years ago and the educational activities of this university have been going on without any quota till now. If the quota system is introduced, there will be a possibility of disrupting the standard of education activities of BUET. Overall, the Academic Council voted against introducing a quota system.’
